Brazil struggled to an uninspiring goalless draw away to Colombia in their opening match of the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign on Sunday.
The only team to have played at all 18 World Cups, Brazil is likely to be happier with the point, achieved at 2,600 metres above sea level on a slippery pitch, than its lacklustre performance.

BRASILIA, (Xinhua) -- Dunga, head coach of the Brazilian football team, said on Tuesday that the 2010 World Cup qualifying tournament is a war.
"The tournament is a war. Brazil needs to be victorious. What we should do is to have a good start," said Dunga to the press in Rio de Janeiro.
Former Colombia captain Cordoba vows never to play for Pinto

BOGOTA, Colombia: Former Colombia captain Ivan Ramiro Cordoba says he will never return to play for the national team so long as Jorge Luis Pinto remains its coach.
"Following the Copa America I told coach Pinto that as long as he was head coach I would not accept playing for him and my position has not changed," Cordoba wrote in a public letter on Monday to Luis Bedoya, president of Colombia's soccer federation.
Montiel Retains WBO Title

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Fernando Montiel of Mexico stopped Luis Melendez of Colombia by technical knockout in the 12th round to retain his World Boxing Organization junior bantamweight championship Thursday at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
Montiel hurt Melendez early in the 12th with two rights to the head. A left to the body seconds later dropped Melendez for a seven-count. Montiel then landed a right cross and left hook to the head, prompting referee Kenny Bayless to halt the bout at 1:58.
Maradona irons out wrinkles

Bogota, Argentine football legend Diego Maradona last month visited a clinic in Colombia to iron out some wrinkles and shrink his double chin, a doctor said on Thursday. Maradona arrived in Bogota on August 28 to undergo what his personal doctor, Alfredo Cahe, at the time said was esthetic dental work.

BOGOTA, Colombia: Colombia avenged a blowout at this summer's Copa America and defeated Paraguay 1-0 on Wednesday in its final international friendly before the start of the South American World Cup qualifiers next month.
Striker Wason Reteria, who plays for France's Strasbourg, drove a crossing shot past a diving goalkeeper Justo Villar for Colombia's only goal at 37 minutes.
