BOGOTA, Colombia: Ricardo Ciciliano scored twice as Millonarios of Colombia upset Brazilian champion Sao Paolo 2-0 Wednesday to advance to the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana.
Ciciliano broke open the cautious, back-and-forth play and found the net in the 77th and 82nd minutes — the first an unstoppable, no-bounce volley shot off a centering pass from just inside the area.
Cars throughout Colombia's capital honked their horns in celebration when the final whistle blew.
In the previous match, Millonarios — which is struggling in the bottom half of the standings in Colombia's local tournament — stunned Sao Paulo 1-0 in Brazil.
Millonarios must now await the outcome Thursday of another quarterfinal match between Argentina's River Plate and Uruguay's Defensor to see who it meets in the semifinals.
